Would be possible to just get a cap or venner on just that one tooth

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
I really only have one tooth that i have a problem with, whenever i smile, it would appear my teeth were crooked but its only because i have a chipped and slightly crooked front tooth. the chip isnt very big, but it is noticablee by far. and the crookedness might not look so severe if the chip werent there. So what i was wondering is, instead of getting braces, because there no where near in my budget, if it would be possible to just get a cap or venner on just that one tooth. Out of my two front teeth, its the one on the rightt, and its crooked towards the left, witch is where the chip is, on the left corner on my tooth.

Will a cosmetic dentist reduce the length of the crowns fitted?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
I have recently had six crowns fitted on the NHS,which are a combination of metal fused to porcelain. My crowns are too long and ‘cut’ into my bottom lip.I asked the restorative dentist at the time to reduce the length, but he refused. I have been left feeling very self-concious. Is it possible if i went privately,to a cosmetic dentist,to reduce the length or will this crack or split the crown?

How much a metal cap would cost and what are my options

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
Hello, When I was younger I fell over and chipped my front tooth in half. It was capped. After a few years it fell out and I went for more dentistry work. The dentist pretty much ground the tooth down to a little stump and then bonded a cap to the tooth. He said it will last a few years and so far has been in for a good 8 years with no signs of movement. I am unhappy with the tooth as it is rather grey in comparison to the other teeth… my friend has a cap on the same tooth and his is greyish also. Unfortunately I smoke but am planning on quitting in the near future. I have made my mind up on getting the cap replaced and was wondering on the options available. I would love a fancy cap… if not solid silver at least the outer edge silver and the rest white matching the rest of my teeth. I wore braces as a kid and my teeth are straight. When I went to mexico I noticed a lot of the guys had the gold outer rimmed caps and thought they look rather nice as they aren’t as much as a solid metal tooth. Could you please give me a rough estimation on how much a metal cap would cost and the options available to me. I am after it having a silver outer edge if that makes any sense? Look forward to hearing from you Kind regards

How long does it take a porcelain fused to metal crown to adjust

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
I got a porcelain fused to metal crown about 5 months ago and I have a couple of questions. I was looking at it today and I saw this white line between where the metal and porcelain meet. What is that? Also there is a black horizontal line in the middle of my crown on the porcelain part. It isn’t at the gum line, what could this be? Also how long does it take a crown like this to adjust because my gums are still sensitive around it? Thanks!

My front tooth is discoloured would i have to get both teeth crowned or vennered?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Q.
My front tooth is discoloured and is darker than the other front tooth. Its gradually got worse over the years although has not changed in the last year or so. Im aware that it is noticable and would like to get this rectified and was wondering whether I would have to get both teeth crowned or vennered to get a good colour match.

What can be done to correctly fit an irreplaced crown?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009
Q.
I had a crown on a back molar which did not fit correctly and is in the process of being replaced. I have a dull ache in the tooth area to the rear of the tooth. It is not the throbbing of a regular root canal type pain. An endodontist could not see damage to the nerve or root other than the poorly fitting crown which is now gone and a temporary in place. I am getting intermittent pain but am concerned about getting a root canal as a previou s root canal on a bottom molar left permanent nerve damage. What do you suggest?
