Do I need to have a tooth which has has a root canal procedure done on it crowned?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
I recently had a root canal but have not yet had the crown done. It seems they did a very good job on the root canal and the filling. Do I need the crown on top? We are talking $950!

The crown continues to break off the implant

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
My husband eye tooth brook off, and since it was so far down, his dentist advise us to have it removed and an implant done. He has had that done, and the crown continues to break off the implant. He is not eating anything hard when it breaks off. This last time was a sandwich. The third replacement was only three weeks ago. His dentist blames him, or that the cement is not good enough. I don’t understand why he is having these problems. My top four teeth are all crowned and I have had them for 10 years and not one problem, and I eat apples, and all kinds of hard items.

Can I get veneers free on the NHS?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
Can I get veneers free on the NHS? One of my front teeth is discoloured and my dentist has said that it is partially dead – therefore I may need root canal treatment before I have veneers fitted. I am a full time student, so would the NHS pay for all/some of the treatment and how do I apply??

I have a crown fitted by an NHS dentist, which has now fallen out four times

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
I have a crown fitted by an NHS dentist, which has now fallen out four times. On average 2 months after being refitted. It already has a metal pole on it. I can’t afford implants, but is it worth getting it refixed privately.

Is there a huge difference in Lava Crowns vs Porcelin Crowns in terms of the durability, strength, lasting longer?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
Good morning Dr. Moore Is there a huge difference in Lava Crowns vs Porcelin Crowns in terms of the durability, strength, lasting longer? The cost is enormously different $200.00 copay vs $1,050.00 copay. Am I bette off sticking with the ceramic?? By the way these are tooth no. 15, 18, 3, 31. As you can see this is going to be a huge bill. Is it worth it! Why? Thanks

I think I have an abscess on front tooth which already has a crown. After root canal treatment, can same crown be used or would I need a new one?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
I think I have an abscess on front tooth which already has a crown. After root canal treatment, can same crown be used or would I need a new one? Already having another crown removed because of abscess and getting an implant but cannot afford two implants at £2000 each. Is there any particular reason why both crowns would develop abscesses at same time?

I’ve had an x-ray which showed the adult tooth above was damaged and twisted, so was unable to come down. I originaly wanted a crown fitted over the tooth to make my front teeth more symmetrical

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Moore, I have a milk tooth that looks really small in comparison to my adult teeth. I’ve had an x-ray which showed the adult tooth above was damaged and twisted, so was unable to come down. I originaly wanted a crown fitted over the tooth to make my front teeth more symmetrical, but my dentist advised against it. I was wondering if an implant would be suitable instead, replacing the smaller tooth with a large implant. If so, would there be a problem with the existing adult tooth that remains? Thanks for any advice you can give.
