Is the quality of NHS crown same as a private crown?

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q.
Hi there Andrew. Thank you for offering your advice here. I’ve had a porcelain and metal bonded crown on my main front left tooth for the last 6 years. It is fitted on a small stub (my actual tooth) Recently my porcelain crown broke in the middle of the night. It just fell apart at 5am. I didn’t bang it and dont hink i have ever banged it as im very carefull with it. Only the porcelain broke off… the black metal is still on my tooth with the permenant dentist glue. I have a HC2 certificate. What is the difference, in detail, between an NHS crown and a private crown? Shouldn’t the quality of a NHS crown be the same as a private crown? Am I entitled to request, under my entitlement to rights from NHS dental treatment received, that i would like the NHS crown to be the same quality as a private crown? Am I entitled to an all ceramic crown under my NHS HC2 certificate rather than a porcelain/metal bonded crown? It is for my main front left tooth. Looking forward to your advice. Many many thanks.

Assessment of bite

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q.
Hi i had new crowns fitted at the front , top and bottom, the right hand side below and the left hand side top. Everything was fine until i had the lefthand bottom done, i ended up with an infection but it cleared up i had a root canal and crowns went back on some of the crowns are also a bridge. From then on which is over 10 months ago i cannot eat anything on that side at all cannot even press down with my finger as it hurst too much. I went back to the dentist twice and one of the answers he gave me was my body could get use to the pain or use sensitive toothpast. I went to see another dentist about 3 weeks ago and he said my bite was wrong, i went back to my dentist today (different dentist as mine had left from that surgery) and he said they were a good job and one of my own teeth at the top may need filing down, never had any problems before crowns. My jaw has now started cracking on occasions but he said that sometimes happens. My tongue on the opposite side of this now has a white patch on it where my tooth is catching on it due to being only able to eat all the time on that side. So what do you think should be my next step i have never been pain free since i had these done. Thanking you.

I need a root canal procedure is there any way i can still have my teeth look the same?

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi, I was wondering about a root canal. I need a root canal procedure on my right front tooth. I heard that you have to have a crown when the procedure is finished. I’m worried about my smile and if the crown color will match my other teeth. I don’t want my tooth to be obvious. Is there any way I can still have my teeth look the same ? THANKS. 🙂

What is more expensive and dental crown or a vaneer?

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009
Q.
What is more expensive and dental crown or a vaneer? In the font part of my mouth in the top teeth there was a tooth that had been broken since I was 8 years old. My dentist was able to fix this tooth and it looks great and I am able to eat much better. I am only wanting to know what this is a crown or a vaneer. I watched the video on the dental crown and the Vaneers. He did not say he just worked for about 2 hours it seemed and now I am able to use the tooth.

is it possible to have new post or crown fitted with bridge attached?

Friday, August 21st, 2009
Q.
I had my 2 front teeth crowned 22 years ago.In January this year the UR1 got an infection and in June I had crown post etc removed and a temp bridge put on.My dentist is very keen to do implant but I cannot afford it at this time. My UR2 has now started feeling uncomfortable and hurting and dont want to spend alot of money on permanent bridge if it has to come out after few weeks. My dentist says the post is very large and I havent got much of a root filling, is it possible to have new post/crown fitted with bridge attached? Or should I consider dentures for front 2 teeth?

My son’s new crown is way big and it has gap in between will it return to normal?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009
Q.
My three year son had a brown spot betwen his two front teeth. The dentist said it would be best to cap them. The caps he has are white in the front and silver in the back. The caps that they placed are way to big. The dentist said they are pre-fabricated and are one size of all toddlers . There is also a gap in between now and they are stick out (buck tooth). They weren’t like that before..will it return to normal?

How can I get my bite balanced so that no teeth are under too much duress?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009
Q.
I have a very close bite. Recently I went to the dentist and had to have two fillings, one on the top and the opposite one beneath. The previous fillings had crumbled. The dentist told me they’d probably crumbled because the fillings were too high, leading to too much pressure. However, last time I had a crown on the other side of my mouth, the dentist told me that had broken because there was too much pressure on THAT side. How can I get my bite balanced so that no teeth are under too much duress? I should mention that I’m 60 years old now and this seems to have been a problem throughout my life.

Would a tightly fitted crown on an implant damage the adjacent teeth

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Q.
Hello. I recently had the crown fitted after a dental implant UL6 a day after I noticed the the crown felt very tight and I was unable to floss between UL5,4,3,2, a week later I returned to practice that fitted the implant the crown was removed and I think filed and re fitted, I found after a day or so there was no difference so returned again where the crown was removed and another impression taken the crown being returned to the dental lab, I have not had it re fitted yet, the gap between the adjacent teeth has now returned to normal, I cannot recall UL2 ever sticking out slightly as it is now and the dental surgeon said it would not be possible for the implant that was tight to move UL 2, I am concerned as the tightly fitting crown was in place for over two weeks some damage may have occured to the adjacent teeth, could you give me some help please. Thank You

Q.
Hello Sir, I have slightly bigger front teeth. Is it necessary to use any crowns or veneers to get them smaller and in shape? Just grinding and reshaping the teeth will not do??
