I had an operation to remove a cyst and because it has destroyed my mouth, I lack confidence, can you suggest treatment to correct this?

Monday, January 17th, 2011
Q.

Hi, i wondered if anyone could help me. I am 37 and gone through alot with dentists. I had a cyst growing in my mouth and was left to grow for 18yrs or more, when a new dentist came along i was referred to the hospital but i had to have a big operation. I had crowns already and missing teeth from the old dentist and lost all my confidence i hate my teeth. But, i have now no bone left in the roof of my mouth and the case was lost because of causation. I havent alot of money and i dont know where to go but my mouth is such a mess, i dont go out much apart from work cos i have really lost all confidence. Do you know any work i can have done that will reconstrut my bone, fix up the 4 front crowns and fill in the gaps along the top where my teeth are missing and sort out the fillings and discolouration from the rest of the teeth…or am i always going to be like this? i have been told my teeth have a life expectation of 3 yrs since the op which took place in feb 09…am really worried.

What treatment options are available for my ‘rotated’ teeth?

Friday, January 14th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I have what i believe you would term ‘rotated’ front teeth due to overcrowding. My research into this matter seems to suggest that I am therefore an unsuitable candidate for veneers. Could you please give me an idea of what alternative options I may consider? I’m seriously contemplating pulling the damn things out and getting some ‘posh’ dentures/plate as seen on 10 years younger.

Thanks in advance.

Can I have porcelain veneers fitted on my two front teeth, on the NHS?

Friday, January 14th, 2011
Q.

I’m under 18, and I have a gap between my two front teeth (incisors), and I don’t like it at all, I was considering getting porcelain veneers for just them two teeth, but can I get it for free?
Since I do not want braces at all, and I haven’t got the money to pay approximately £400 (for both teeth) to get a private dentist to do it.

Can my NHS dentist replace 8 amalgam fillings with composite/ceramic ones?

Friday, January 14th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes,

I have 8 amalgam fillings done 10 years ago.

In the last few months i have been thinking that these might cause bad breath as there is a tooth decay underneath. Can this be related to bad breath?

Apart from the above I have good healthy teeth and good dental hygiene and my NHS dentist doesn’t seem to think i need them replaced.

I would like to have them replaced with white composite fillings or ceramic for cosmetic reasons and for a possible relation to bad breath.

I suppose the tooth decay underneath will still be there but less visible.

I would greatly appreciate your advice.

many thanks

What treatment options are available for my small teeth with gaps inbetween?

Friday, January 14th, 2011
Q.

I don’t consider myself to have bad teeth, but they are small and have gaps. If I wanted to have them cosmetically done, which would be the best option?

I still have my ‘baby teeth’, have black gums and I am 26, what could be the reason for this?

Friday, January 14th, 2011
Q.

I am 26 and still have my baby teeth, none of my adult teeth have come through. I also have black gums, why do you think this is? Could there be some sort of connection?
