My sons gum erosion is definitely a medical issue, can you give me some advice on this?

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010
Q.
My son who is 8 has some fairly substantial gum erosion under is front lower tooth. I was referred to an orthodontist who has said this is because his top and lower teeth have no gap and so when he talks/eats, there is friction and this is causing the gum to erode. His suggestion is a brace which he says is needed to bring my sons top teeth forward to create a gap. Under the new NHS rules he says no gap means no cover and has quoted £1000 for brace. Surely a condition that is medical and not cosmetic chould be covered? I am aware that my son could loose his tooth if the gum erodes anymore which surely makes this a medical issue- a crooked finger would not be fixed by the NHS to make it look nicer, however i am sure that something would be done to help prevent someone with a condition from losing one.Is this not the same for teeth? Please can you advise me? Thank you,

How do I go about getting the right teeth line up?

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I used to have braces and I was given retainers to wear but over time I stopped wearing them. Now when I bite down, only one side of teeth line up and the other side doesn’t line up correctly. How could I go about fixing this and would it be expensive?,

Can I have my dental veneers replaced on the NHS?

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010
Q.
I have had veneers since I was 15 yrs old as I had a gap between my two front teeth. Dentist thought veneers would be solution. I got them done free on NHS. I have had veneers replaced since then as I am now 33 yrs old – these were also done for free on the NHS. I have now had these replacement veneers for 7 yrs but one is so thin that it has a slight chip in it and it has moved forward and is not inline with rest of teeth. I am now looking for this to be replaced – would I have to pay for this private or could I get this done again free on the NHS??,

Is the surgery that i need available on the NHS?

Monday, March 22nd, 2010
Q.
Q. I am 21 years old. About 6 years ago I was under orthodontic treatment. I was offered to have surgery when I was roughly 15 to correct my jaw alignment. The options were to bring my upper jaw forward and my lower jaw back Aswell as have braces. At the time I turned down the surgery as I felt it was too much of a major operation although my confidence was very low. Now I have re considered having the surgery as my self confidence is even worse, causing paranoia and my self esteem is at its lowest. Alongside this I believe the gap between my teeth has increased. I am 21 and would like to know if i can get this surgery done on the NHS as I can’t afford private treatment. Many Thanks,,
