My son’s tooth has grayed, how can this be corrected?

Monday, November 22nd, 2010
Q.

My 17 year old son got his braces off in May and one tooth has turned gray. He wore the braces for 2 years and orthodontist said the tooth may have been traumatized by the braces. We’ve had the tooth tested and it’s not dead, but it’s top 2nd from center and my son has finally admitted that he’s self conscious about it and would like to have it fixed. Our regular dentist has indicated that there is no good way to make the tooth look right. What do you suggest?

I have a hard bite problem and need a cheap solution. Do you have anything that can help?

Q.

Hi Andrew,

Im a 20 year old female, and im currently suffering from Bruxism and a very uncomfortable bite which i think had made it worse. i want to see if i qualify for orthodontic treatment on the NHS.

I’ve always ground my teeth at night but in the last year it has gotten quite severe, and more noticable since my boyfriend moved in and has to wake me up to stop constantly in the night. i wake up with an aching jaw and headaches most days and dread going to sleep incase i cause more damage…

i had a brace when i was 13 but since i had it off and i gradually stopped wearing my retainer, my wisdom teeth have started coming through and slowly my bite has become unbearable, my molars dont align comfortably and this bothers me to the point where i think about it throughout the day and find myself clenching my jaw and rubbing my front teeth against eachother.

Im also extremely worried about my enamel. i have a weak stomach and have developed an intolerance to alcohol which ive only just recognised, but for the last 3 or 4 years have been sick at least once a month and up to twice a week. consequently my front teeth are transparant half way down.

my teeth are very sensitive and ive started to get a shooting pain up one of my molars which comes and goes, my dentist x rayed and said nothing was wrong.

Im wondering if my wisdom teeth coming through in the last couple of years has caused my bite to change and has subsequently made the bruxism worse?

ive got to the point where i go to sleep and have nightmares about my teeth and spend all day with an aching jaw and headahce worrying about it and then dread going to sleep…

i know theres plates available but im wondering if i can get my bite fixed with orthodontics on the NHS? Would i qualify for this?
I want to get it sorted and feel more comfortable and stop worrying but im a student and i cant afford to pay for it privately. is there a cheap way to fix the problem?

Thank you for your time,
I’d love some advice, or some kind of alternative for a low budget. This is causing me so much stress and discomfort.

Thanks a lot

I wear a brace, but my teeth are moving incorrectly. What should I do?

Monday, November 22nd, 2010
Q.

Hello,
I had braces when i was 15 (now 21) and still wear my retainer regularly – atleast once every 2-3 weeks. I’ve just noticed the two front teeth on the bottom have started to move back and they also move very slightly when i press them with my finger. they’re not wobbly but just show some movement if i press them. Is this normal?? I’ve been wearing the retainer a couple of days now which seems to have helped. is it a good idea to keep wearing the retainer everyday and should i keep it up long term?

I am embarressed by my teeth and need help, what should I do?

Monday, November 22nd, 2010
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, I am 19 years old and i am really embarrased by my teeth, its gets me down so much that it is getting to the point where i dont even want to leave the house. At school people used to laugh at me and call me rabbit and it has always stuck with me ever since and i hate it! I recently qualified as a beautician and have had a few interviews, i didnt get the jobs and i felt that my teeth had something to do with it. I have never been able to smile or laugh without covering my mouth, i am always paranoid that people are looking at my horrible teeth. Please can you help me? I only have a part time job and i can not afford the costs of a brace, is there anyway that i could get my teeth fixed for free or even for a lower price or on a finacial plan. I have also always wanted to do modelling that was my dream as a child but i cannot achieive my goals with my goofey teeth, even writing this to you now brings tears to my eyes because they make me feel so ugly and depressed. I hope you can help me. Thank you for your time.

Hi, I am 27 and finally ready to straighten my teeth, My top teeth are straight except my lateral incisors ( I think they are called) they are slanted/crooked. The same with the 2 bottom except those 2 teeth are straight but alittle behind the rest. My question is what type of braces are recommended and for how long?

How long would it take to close gaps in my teeth with braces& what would be the cost?

Friday, November 19th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Patel, I would appreciate if you could answer to my below questions; My problem is that I have a Periodontal disease and I lost few teeth’s. At the moment I have a partial metal denture. Some of my teeth’s are moved and crate a big spaces between them and it look’s ugly. I believe that some of the orthodontic treatment has to take place, before any additional action to my perfect smile. The teeth’s which needs orthodontic treatment are the upper R2 and L2. Could you please let me know how long I need to wear the braces to straighten them and the cost. (appox).,
