I have had many tooth removals, can a human survive with only 26 teeth?

Monday, May 16th, 2011
Q.

Dear doctor,

i’m having a very complex situation,
im 24 years and i already lack 4 teeth in my mouth ,as they have been removed 11 years back due to crowded teeth.(2 canines from upper jaw and 2 molars from lower jaw)….& after that i had lovely straight teeth but recently the upper teeth have come forward. and i wanted to push them back. so my doctor says i should remove two of my molars from the upper jaw to gain space and push the front teeth back. (as i have already done with the expander also and still the teeth are not in the proper place)

but im too scared to remove molars because if i remove two molars now, i will be left with only 12 teeth in the uper jaw and im scared it will alter my facial structure and make my face look flat as people say.
so doctor, will it affect my facial shape and lips in a negative way like that?

is it ok to have 26 teeth? i mean can a human survive with 26 teeth?

and is it a good option to remove 2 molars?

please please answer my problems and help me to take a better decision about removing teeth. thank you very much.,

What is the best way to close a gap between front teeth?

Monday, May 16th, 2011
Q.

hi I have had a gap inbetween my front two teeth since they came through I find them them really uncomfortable to smile with and just dont feel happy in myself because I know they are there. I have asked many dentists I have had if I can get them filled in or something or other and all of them have said to me I cant. from what I can see on this website that you can truthfly and a few people I know have had this procedure.
Also what would the cost be for this.

After years of brace work my teeth have drifted. What are my options?

Monday, May 16th, 2011
Q.

I had braces for 4 years when I was a teenager, and wore my retainer for 6 months longer than was required. Despite this my teeth have grown back to their original position. This is quite upsetting as you can imagine, since I spent my adolescence being ridiculed and going through quite a lot of pain for the braces, and it turns out it was all for nothing. I’m now 22, and don’t want to have to pay for the mistakes my orthodontist made. What treatments are available to me?

I have a big gap in my front teeth, what is the best way to close it?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hello, i’m 17 and have quite a big gap in my front two teeth and the teeth either side also have a slight gaps. 3years ago my dentist told me that the gaps would close naturally quite soon, but nothings happpened. I really hate smiling in photos as I hate showing my teeth. the bottom row are fine. to give a rough idea, my teeth are similar to how the 1st womans were on your portfolio and i’d like to have my teeth like hers are now. I’ve heard veneers would be good, but don’t last long and can crack easily. what would you think the cheapest ways are to fix the gap? can i permenatley get rid of the gap or will it always be there? thankyou

What other options than braces does my 14 year old daughter have?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

my 14 yr old daughter has seen an orthodentist who has said she needs 4 extractions and then a brace. she has only minor crowding on the bottom front teeth at one side and doesn’t like her pointy canines at the top which are noticible when she smiles.the dentist said she needed the extractions to be able to line up her bite correctly. on looking at her the teeth are only a couple of mm off and not really noticible. given that her issues seem quite minor would she be able to correct the canines with veneers to achieve as nicer look without all the extractions and braces.

I have damaged my tooth a while ago and it is still sensitive, can I get brace treatment?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi I would like to ask your advice on my up and coming orthodontic treatment which is to correct my underbite. The problem is that I recently suffered trauma to my teeth which subsequently left my central incisor loose.
I am scheduled for the fitting procedure in May which will be a year on from the trauma took place.
My tooth is still sensitive and tender and I am anxious that it is to soon to have braces fitted. I am afraid the tooth will die.
The orthodontist has not taken any individual x-rays and has told me if the tooth is going to die it will die anyway.
What is your opinion on my situation?

Can you use veneers to correct an overbite problem?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hello doctor can you use veneers to correct a problem overbite – I have been advised to have 6 upper veneers and 8 lower venners and to have all the work completed at once ( in a series of visits) as the dentist would be correcting a very problematic overbite and grinding problem. Surely, with this kind of problem would veneers on the front lower teeth be advisable in the first place? and what options do I have for improving the appearance of the lower teeth and to stop the wear ffrom the grinding? Many thanks for your time

Would veneers help fixed my twisted teeth?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr Glaister,

When i was very young (I’m now 30) I slipped over in the bath and cracked my right upper central incisor (this has a vaneer on it now) and damaged my left upper central incisor, so that it began to turn inwards. It has now turned about 45 degrees inwards and looks very unpleasant. I would like to have the right one looked at and possibly repaired as the vaneer was not applied perfectly and is slightly misshapen. I would also like to repair the left one so that it looks normal again. While growing up I had a 2mm gap between my 2 upper central incisors, but that’s no longer there as my left upper is sitting just slightly behind my right. What would you recommend? How much is it likely to cost? How soon could I have it done?

Kind Regards,

Can my crooked tooth be fixed with braces?

Thursday, May 5th, 2011
Q.

Hi I wore a brace when I was younger but my bottom teeth have crossed at the front. I wore a retainer on my top set off teeth but not my bottom. Sometimes I feel conscious when I smile because this one tooth can be seen. I would like to ask if there is a solution to my problem although I don’t think I could afford to pay for it at the moment so I would just like to speak to someone in advance. I would probably have a brace again or possibly consider the 6 month smile option, would this solution offer a permanent improvement or would it make my teeth worse , I really need some closure on this situation as the longer I wait the worse it becomes , Thanks

How can I get my Crooked Teeth fixed quickly

Thursday, May 5th, 2011
Q.

I was just wondering if you can get veneers at 16 with parental permission? I am very self conscious and would like my teeth sorted before i start college in september. My bottom teeth are straight, however my top front teeth protrude and are quite crooked and some overlap eachover. I also find two of my teeth on the top to be quite fanged. I also find my teeth to be quite stained. I feel as if braces won’t sort the problem out quick enough and may also make me even more self-conscious as i am aware with of the comments that come with braces. I want to be able to smile and not be worried what people think.

Thankyou.
