Capped teeth giving a wedged feeling in the gums

Q. Two years ago I had root canal treatment on two bottom teeth. Both teeth where then capped with gold. Just lately especially when eating meat one of the teeth feels uncomfortable not a pain just a feeling as if something is wedged between the teeth and pressing on the gum. This sensation has been coming and going for about a month now – any suggestions? The treatment I had was over £1,000 for each tooth, I would be disappointed if the proceedure has failed to do its job. Thanks

A. Hi many thanks for your email, the rate of failure of root canal treatment over 5 years is 5% approximatey. it maybe that the root canal treatment may be failing, if you do want to still try to save the tooth i would recommend you seek an endodontist to try to assess if the root canal treatment can improved. hope this is helpful.
