Can you explain why I might not be a candidate for dental implants?

Q.
Hi I have had a front tooth (crowned) removed after having suffered an abcess. My NHS dentist was unable to perform root canal treatment due to there being virtually no root left and he had to remove the tooth. I have been advised that the only treatment left for me is a bridge (after approx 6 months of wearing a denture) which I understand would involve crowning healthy teeth either side. I cannot bear the denture I have been fitted with. Can you tell me why he would not mention dental implants as an alternative
Thanks
A.
There are no absolute contraindications for treatment with dental implants besides the ones applicable for surgery in general. The following situations may compromise the success rate:-

• General disease or pathology in the jaws
• Reduced healing or nutritional capacity due to disease or therapy (e.g. radiotherapy)
• Alcohol or drug abuse
• Smoking.

The appearance is affected by the contour of the bone around the implant and the gum on top of it. The amount of post extraction bone loss is variable due to your own body’s response. If insufficient bone is available at the site, a synthetic bone graft can be placed to encourage the bone to reform. This additional stage causes more variation of the final bone contour, which may affect the final appearance.

If you would like a free intial assesment for dental implants contact StJohns Dental for details on 0121 643 0610.

As a rough guide a single tooth implant & crown costs £1800 – £2,300

Hi Alaque, the contraindications for implants are any conditions that cause you to be immunocompromised, e.g. diabetes and smoking

I have had one of my main front 2 teeth missing for some time and it lookshorrendous. This is due to a problem with a crown I had when I was younger.I am currently 29 yrs old. My local dentist could only offer a denture which must be placed in my mouth and secured with denture grip. It constantlycomes out, impairs my speech, and I cant get used to it. Does your practiceoffer a more secure option? Perhaps an implant that stays in full time?

I have resently had a molar removed but waiting for a referral to Pinderfields for the rest of the tooth out as it fractured during extraction. My detist said he thought it may have a poor prognosis for an implant. Will I beable to have a bone graft and then an implant if this is the case? What doyou charge for this type of work per tooth?
