Can I Get Veneers If I Have Periodontitis?

Q.
I suffer from Periodontitis, and I was wondering if I would be able to opt for veneers. Can I ask you for some advice please on my best options? I have now got to the stage where I hold my hand over my mouth when I smile. It’s destroyed my confidence and also the dentist has obviously told me about the health risks etc which is only getting me more stressed out about it.
A.
Periodontitis needs to be eliminated before any definitive treatment like veneers is carried out. If your dentist/hygienist is struggling with this, stop smoking if you do smoke and consider a test (dentalyse) to sample the bugs causing the periodontitis so that you can be put on an appropriate course of antibiotics to get rid of the periodontitis. If you are then left with gaps in between your teeth because your gums have receded, you could then have veneers or braces to try and close the gaps.
It all depends on the severity of the periodontitis and how much gum recession therre has been already
Hope this helps!

Thank you for you advice. Stopping smoking is something i know i will have to try, perhapes the incentive of having a great smile might have a better effect than the though of my own health.
I cant help smiling at the weakness of that, vanity seems to hold more sway over common sense.

Thank you once again.
