can i get cosmetic dentistry on nhs

Q. Hello, I have had a complex about my teeth seen my teens i am now 36 and it still restricts my every day life. I am not in a position to afford cosmetic dentistry, so i would like to know if there are circumstances where it is available on the NHS.I don’t want laugh half hearted anymore where i have to put my hand over my mouth or hold my nose to hide an ugly smile.

A. As we are a private practice you would need to consult a NHS dentist as to what is currently available on the NHS re cosmetic dentsitry. Your other option would be to try a dental school.

Can you please tell me how you go about registering with a dental school for cosmetic treatment. After reading your remark above i have tried looking online but have been unsuccessful. I have overcrowded teeth which has led to receeding gums, i am extremely ashamed of my mouth and it effects me greatly. I couldnt afford cosmetic dentistry so would love to be able to join up with a school and receive possible free treatment, kind regards kelly

I was told that i would be entitled to braces when i was in my teens, but the dentist said he was waiting for my teeth to grow. when my mum finally asked when i was going to get them, they said i was too old.
i am now 27, and my teeth are in such a state. i dont smile as i dont want people to see my teeth, and when i talk to people i usually cover my mouth.
im not able to work due to a medical problem, which has shattered my confidence and dont go out because of the shame with my teeth.
my teeth are small and gaped and my front teeth dip in words. i have filed down my 3rd tooth from the front on the left, (while im sleeping) so it is flat and not pointed like its supposed to be.
i dont think you will beable to help me with any advice… but i have no clue on what to do any more. apart from getting into a fight and someone punching them out. (joke)

thanks.

My gums have badly receded and my roots are showing along the front teeth. I am embaressed about smiling. Also, my fron teeth stick right out too. The NHS dentist just cleans them up and doesn’t even fill them anymore. I would love to find out about a dental school too. Thanks.

I know braces are not really cosmetic dentistry but would I be able to get Invisalign or Damon braces on the nhs or for free ? My teethe are really crooked and I have a big gap between my top middle teeth and I don’t want to have veneers because I don’t want tooth grinding. If I have an nhs card because I’m unemployed will I get braces for free.

I was involved in aserious incident 2 years ago whereas I was assaulted. The result of this being a facial scar, one of my front teeth was broke, another chipped and mybottom teeth are very uncomfortable. They were already crowded but the force in which I banged my face has made them worse and they have moved a greatdeal. I visited the dental hospital today and they recommended I had braces. Due to me being 18 and currently unemployed due to ill health they advised me to contact yourselves and ask for a special request to see if you could treat me on NHS. I have been mithering my dentist to refer me since theincident but it has ammounted to nothing. Please could I atleast visit youso you could advise me further. Thankyou.

Hi I’m looking to get my two front teeth sorted to give me a straighter smile my dentist has said to cap them and quoted me £1000 for this but has said I need to really think it through as it will make them smaller, does this sound right? Thought caps are made to requirements so how would they appear smaller? I’m gettin confused have tried to book consultation elsewhere but they charge £50 just for this when all I want to know is wat would straighten these 2 teeth, like others on here I was left to late to get a brace on the nhs and cost wise seems cheaper to fake a straight smile than pay for braces.
Any advice? Many thanks

Dear Enquirer, The only way to close a large gap is to ave a set of braces fitted, whic are not available under the NHS. They need to be funded by yourself. Regards,

Hello, I have a very painful abcesses and have been given a strong antibiotic from doctors, this is the second time the abcesses has come back, my dentist told me i need root canal but i am worried, firstly i am scared of dentist treatment, but i have a bridge which has been fitted over 26 years ago and the tooth that needs root canal is next to my bridge, my teeth have discoloured compared to my bridge and i need my teeth whitening , how would this be possible ? also the tooth that needs root canal would i be better to extend the bridge from 3 to a 4 tooth bridge rather than having a 3 tooth bridge and a crown . also i go to a nhs dentist but i do pay for my treatment as i work but would all this treatment be allowed in a nhs dentist thank you .

All the necessary treatment would be available under the NHS except any whitening or cosmetic treatment. Do not worry about aving a root canal…it is a standard treatment and will help to heal your abscess. Regards,

No, unless you are under 16. You would need to pay privately otherwise with either a normal fixed brace or invisable braces such as Invisalign or the Inman Aligner

I have dental problem that need correction but due cost I have not been able to see to it. I am looking for charitable dental organization that can help me. For so many year I have not been able to smile. In 1994/96 I needed caps to be fitted on my four lower teeth and was referred to hospital for it to be done. Instead of the cap, they decided to remove my teeth and replace it with an implant. The implant was never done and was instead given a denture. I had few accident with the denture making me lose some teeth. I am looking to put a smile to my face but because of cost I am unable to do so. Please can you point me to charitable organisation that can help me. Thank you
