Are veneers cause of tooth pain?

Q. Hello Dr Andrew, I have had veneers on my two upper front teeth for over 20 years and they have served me well. However, about 6 weeks ago I developed gingivitis above them and had a small abscess which was addressed by antibiotics. The redness of the gums has gone and so has the abscess but I have had pain in the teeth ever since which is somewhat intermittent. My dentist took X-rays and could not find anything wrong.I told him that I thought I had heard cracking sounds in my mouth but he seems to think my pain is not tooth related..He does not want to take the veneers off because it may not help and said it would cost me £800 to replace them and the bonding is never as good the second time around. He now suggests facial pain clinic if there is no improvement.Could you give me your opinion please.,
