Am I suitable for a Maryland Bridge even though I have crowns on either side of the gap?

Q.
I have to replace 2 of my front teeth.I would like to use a Maryland bridge with
ceramic attachments instead of metal. However, I have crowns on both sides.
Can this type of bridge be bonded well to crowns?
A.
Dear Enquirer,
A maryland bridge is not suitable if you have crowns either side of the gap.You willneed a conventional bridge, ie you will need toremove the twocrowns either side of the gap and replace with a fixed 3 unit bridge.
Alternatively, if the crowns are ok, you can have an implant to fill the gap.

Some maryland bridges will last a very long time but others fail quite quickly. It depends on your bite and how you look after it. On average it should be about 5 years
