Am I entitled to dental implants on the NHS?

Q. My daughter is 16 and has two milk teeth with no second teeth to come through on the bottom left side of her mouth she has been advised to have 2 implants costing around 4000 pound is she not intitled to have these on the n h s as this is not her fault this has happened.

A. Dear D,

Very sorry to hear about your daughters’ missing adult teeth. It is certainly not her fault that she has not developed them.

Unfortunately the reality of the NHS is that there is only limited money available. Dental Implant treatment is extremely costly and due to this is not available under the NHS in general practice. The only place she could possibly have the treatment under the NHS is in a Dental teaching hospital. You could ask your dentist to refer you. This is by no means guaranteed but is worth a try.

Are NHS dental implants as good as non NHS dental implants?

I have been looking for NHS dental implants in Manchester but have not been able to find a dentist that offers this in my area do you have any ideas where I could find a clinic that offers dental implants on the NHS.

I have been diagnosed with a nasopharyngeal carcinoma and am having two cycles of chemo and 6 weeks of radio theraphy. After an oral examination the hospital dentist wants to extract 5 teeth. upper 7′ 6′ 1′ 7 and lower 6. I went to visit my dentist and he said that as far as he was concerned the teeth mentioned were fine and that he would not extract any of them. Under these circumstances would I be entitled to any sort of nhs recompense towards fitting implants after I HAVE HOPEFULLY BEEN SUCCESSFUL WITH MY RT AND CHEMO TREATMENT.

I have a full set of dentures top and bottom, i cant wear the bottom ones because they are too big,and cant eat with the top ones in because they slip out, i have tried to have them fitted again but they are expensive and cant afford them. this has started to become a very big problem for me because having to take them out when im eating means that there is some foods i obviously cant eat.
i have started to notice that im loosing weight drematically because im not gettin the right nutrients in my diet. this has also started to make me not want to eat foods because i cant eat the foods i enjoy the most so i feel like i dont want to eat at all.
when i am in the mood for eating, because i cant wear my teeth i struggle and sometimes i cant bite or even chew certain foods and this makes my gums really sore.
i was just wondering if u have any advice for me because im already very slim im gettin slightly scared at the ammount of weight i am loosing.
i have been intouch with a few dentists who have said there is nothing they can do for me and my local GP has said theres not much he can do either.

I recently had a fall which resulted in my front crown being knocked out. My dentist has advised my that I have fractured the nerve and that a further crown is not possible. I wondered if I could have an implant on the NHS as I am a pensioner and cannot afford the cost quoted.

Hi I have had several teeth removed which are lower left 2nd and 3rd molar, lower right 2nd and 3rd molar, upper left 2nd premolar and 2nd molar. I am now finding it very difficult to chew and eat food. I am wondering if this would be a potentail case allwoing me to get tooth implants on the NHS? I look after my teeth and brush them everday; and visit the dentist regularly basis, and my tooth extractions haven’t been down to negligence. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

I had nobel biocare implants in 2006 but the dentist took off with out finishing the job, I have been to most of the major dental hospitals who use nobel biocare, and have seen a number of dodgy dentist. I am under my GP for an eating disorder as I can only drink liquid food (ensure plus) I do not have any faith in dental treatment in the UK as I just keep getting passed around. I don’t feel the technoledgy is up to date in england. I need a bone graft and would like to know how I go about seeking treatment at a teaching hospital in Poland or anywhere else but the UK
The cost has to be taken in to account, as the UK has out priced itself in general,
