mini-implant instead of normal implant?
Q.
I’ve had a front tooth extraction (the one beside the very front). Dentist says there isn’t enough room for an implant without first using Invisalign to make space. I don’t want to have invisalign because I have fibromyalgia and I find it hard enough to sleep as it is, without having a mouthful of plastic. Can a mini implant be used instead? I’ve had an apicectomy on that tooth but implant specialist says bone is fine and wouldn’t need graft.

It could be possible but the angulation of the roots of the teeth either side and the distance or space between them is the crucial thing that needs to be assessed correctly. Have you asked the implant dentist’s opinion on the mini implant? A careful examinatio of your Xrays would be needed to give you a more accurate opinion.

You could also in theory remove some very small amounts of enamel from the teeth either side of the gap but I’d check this with the cosmetic dentist who will be placing the crown on the implant.
Hope that helps

Thanks very much for speedy and detailed reply. My dentist didn’t mention mini implant, his assistant is newly qualified in doing them and perhaps doesn’t have the experience to know about them.. I don’t know. I’ve only heard about them on the internet and wasn’t sure if they were ONLY ever used to hold a dental plate in place?
