The crown on my teeth is too large

Q. Hi Dr Suri! Last week I had a root canal on my #14 molar and had a crown put on. After the root canal I had my temporary crown on for about a week and a half with no problems. My dentist put my permanent crown on two days ago and it seemed much larger than the temporary and the adjoining teeth. I experienced a lot of pain for the first day and could not chew on it. Yesterday I went back to the dentist complaining that the crown was too large and I wanted him to change it. He told me he thought it was ok and the pain should go away in a few days. I’ve had 4 crowns done before and never had that kind of pain afterwards. Right now the pain has pretty much subsided (except for a little tightness) and I can now chew on it, however I still feel the crown is too large. Should I insist that he changes this out since I feel I shouldn’t have had pain for 2 days afterwards and cosmetically it does not coform with the size of the adjoining teeth?

A. If you are not happy with the treatment you can insist that it is changed. Your dentist will probably offer to file it down but if you stick to your guns then you can get it changed
Kind regards
