New dentists tells me I have had root canal treatment in the past. I didn’t know this. Is he correct?

Q.

Hello Dr Rob Tennet. I have a question for you so I sincerely hope you have time to answer it for me. I have recently joined a new practice and they have told me i have had root treatment to 2 teeth, I am not aware of this and I’m sure I would have know.
Both the teeth in question have had there fillings redone, 1 because I asked for it to be redone as the filling was turning brown, and the other I can’t remember why as it was a long time ago. Will he be correct in saying that i have had root treatment carried out, if I hadn’t been informed. everytime I have had fillings they have all been the same nothing different has been done. He has taken x-rays.

My teeth are decaying but there is no apparent pain. What should be done?

Q.

Hello Dr Safeer Butt and thank you for taking the time to consider my question. ihave 2 teeth that are badly decayed through years of fizzy drinks and not very good oral hygiene.the decay has eaten through the enamel leaving a dark browndecay underneath.generaly speaking is the fact that i have no pain orjust the normall sensitivity to hot/cold a good thing as regards treatment options.there is also no undue pain when pressure is put on teeth.the teeth in question are my upper central and lateral incisors.i would be interested in your opinions of possible options if as im hoping the decay has not yet reached the pulp/nerve as im not in ahy discomfort. im sorry the question was so long.thank you for your time.

After a bad experience with a filling my dentist has now suggested another to help fix slight tooth decay, is this my best option?

Friday, April 8th, 2011
Q.

I have just been to the dentist and have been told that WITH this xray they THINK they see slight decay. They want to remove a bit of my tooth to see the severity of the decay if any then either put a filling or whatever. I have already had a filling and it went horribly wrong when it came out a couple days after it being put in. this guy is saying he sees SLIGHT decay. I dont understand its so frustrating becuase i only get my teeth pains when i drink cold drinks and it was really bad a couple weeks ago but i have been using sensodine regularily and the pain is gone pretty much vanished but popps up SLIGHTLY ever so slightly now and then but very rarely. I do not want a filling and make problems worse for myself in the long run especially if the filling comes out like the first time. Im just very scared. What do i do???

P.S. i accidentally posted this as a comment on another question… ive never been here before and was slightly confused. Sorry

Is it a straight forward procedure to replace amalgam fillings with composite fillings?

Friday, April 8th, 2011
Q.

Hi Andrew,

My question is about replacing amalgam fillings with composite and whether it is a fairly straightforward process or could it lead to complications? Are composite fillings long lasting?

Thank you for answering.

Thursday, April 7th, 2011
Q.

I had an accident 2 years ago where i chipped my front tooth, my denist fixed the tooth but it now has a brown line through the middle of it and the top part looks grey in colour, it makes me really unhappy as everytime i smile that is all you can see. I also have quite a few fillings which i would like of possible to be changed to white ones?
I am looking to see how much this would cost me to have done.
Thank you

I am concious of the black fillings on my lower teeth, what would you suggest to rectify this?

Thursday, April 7th, 2011
Q.

Hi. I have got three fillings at the bottom right of my mouth. I sing in front of crowds with my guitar and I am concious that I have black teeth and peoits off putting as I hate the look of them.

Is there any way of sorting this out, getting false teeth put in or whitening ‘cap’s ontop? Please help me!

Thanks,

How can I ge my teeth and fillings the same colour?

Thursday, March 10th, 2011
Q.

Hi,
I’m wondering if I will be able to get my teeth to a universal colour after having had some work done whilst I was a smoker.

I had some enamel and filling work done on my teeth about a year ago when I was a 20-a-day smoker, the new enamel was coloured to fit in with the colour of my teeth at the time. Now that I’ve given up, my teeth are getting whiter as I clean them with whitening toothpaste, but the parts that were filled remain in keeping with smoker’s teeth.

I have also just had a crown fitted too.

So, what I’m curious about is whether my teeth can be whitened safely (I also have quite thin enamel, also I’m using toothpaste to help this) so as to be a consistent colour all over.

I hope I’ve explained it correctly.

Hi can I get lumineers on filled teeth?

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr Solanki –

I’ve read about Lumineers and I am wondering if the product is suitable to go over a front top tooth that has two large fillings (one I think is attached with a pin!). About two thirds of the tooth is original and strong.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
