My Teeth Have Gone Black After A Root Canal Making My Veneers Discoloured. Is This A Common Problem And How Can It Be Resolved?

Q.
Hi. Just over 2 years ago I had a smile makeover at my local dentist. This involved teeth whitening first and then 6 upper veneers and 3 lower. I had to have root canal on 3 or 4 of the teeth because my dentist advised me they had to file the original tooth close to the nerve.
After 2 years I have noticed 2 have started to go black. In my opinion it’s the tooth behind that is black and it is starting to show through the veneers making the veneer seem darker than the others.
I have been to see my dentist and she advises nothing is wrong and the only thing she could do if I was still worried would be to drill the veneers off and smear white cement over the original tooth and replace with a new veneer at my expense of course!
Is this a common problem and how can it be resolved?
Do teeth tend to go black once root canal has occurred?
I can send a picture if that will help explain my issues. Thanks.

Teeth turning a dark colour is a recognised complication and consequence following root canal treatment. What you might be able to have done, to avoid the need for new veneers or crowns, is to try internal bleaching of the teeth. This must be carefully done and I’d advise you seek out someone with a lot of experience with the procedure who can show you their results. Sometimes new veneers are also needed as well but where possible I always try the internal bleaching first.

Here’s an example of a similar case done at one of my practices:
