Is my dentist giving me the right shades on my crowns?

Q. Hi, I am in the midle of extensive cosmetic dental work which is very expensive. My dentist says my crowns are made in switzerland hence the 10 day period wearing temporary crowns. The first 6 front crowns he did are very white, and i am certain that he ordered shade A1 but the ones he has done the preparation for this week he has ordered shade of B1, I queried this and he says that they are the whitest ones available, however they dont look the same shade to me and I have a feeling he is trying to supply the NHS crowns and charge me private prices. He has just fitted a B1 shade crown and it is definately not as white as the first 6 he fitted. How can i be sure that he is not fitting NHS crowns insteadof the handmae ones he says come from switzerland? would i be able to rtell the difference? is there a B1 shade for NHS crowns? I am paying a fortune for this work, not to mention the pain i am going through to have a nice smile. Can you advise? please?

A. B1 is the whitest ” natural” shade, it is available in NHS & Private grade porcelains. However about 7 years ago launched a range to match teeth that had been additionally whitened. Panadent Vita have a  3D shade guide from which you can choose clour matches. In addition there are porcelain modifying shades and colour layering tecniques to get shades so bright most people would find excessive.
Colour is about hue, chroma and value A1 is a darker ( value ) shade than B1.
A cosmestic dentist should listen to your concerns and gibve you the shade that you want. However if you change your opinion then the the responsibility would be yours.
You could ask to see the lab invoice for the work to determine the quality of lab work provided although they have no obligation to divulge it.
IF you need further assistance please call the practice.

I chose a shade between A1 and A2 for the new crowns on my 4 front teeth. My originals were A1 and B1 but were fitted some time ago. My dentist said that at 51 I am too old to have white teeth and wanted to fit A3. I objected and now he is being funny with me. How much would I reasonably have to pay for his work so far so I don’t have to return. He said that the bases have been done. The temporarys hurt really bad so I want to get it done soon.
