Is it true that because I am epileptic I cannot receive teeth whitening treatment?

Q.
Hi Dr Moore, having considered having a procedure to whiten my teeth done professionally I should like to know is teeth whitening contra-indicated for all people with epilepsy, under all circumstances? I don’t seem to be able to find enough information on why this might be. Is it just with certain anti epileptic medication? Or say to do with photo sensitivity? I would be very grateful if you could provide some clarity in this matter, as I would dearly love to have my teeth professionally whitened but obviously I don’t want to put my health at risk. Thanks in anticipation.

Hi, thank you for your question. I don’t know of any contra-indication. I would use the professionally made home whitening tray technique as it gives the best long-term results compared to the light/laser whitening done in the chair and it would be better for your situation. Best regards.

Hi I would like to add I am on anti epliptic meds I had laser treatment for tatoo removal I started to have sensations it’s not because of the laser light flickering I triggered because of the pulses of the laser light so I don’t know if laser teeth whiting will be to the same affect
