I have lost teeth due to decay and my gums are extremely painful. What can I do?

Q. I have lost my of my teeth to decay and no dental visits through the last few years mostly. I have roots in my gums that every few months will cause excruciating pain and swell, what my dad used to call an attack of pyaria. What can I do for the pain and to clean the gums gently to stop it?,
A. You can’t do anything except go to a dentist
