I Have Been Told That I Could Have A Lower Bone Graft For Dental Implants. Does This Sound Correct?

Q.
Hi. I have a full lower denture that is totally loose and unretentive to the point where I have to remove it in order to eat, although aesthetically it looks good.
I have been advised that I need a bone graft as the lower gum has been ground down to such an extent. I have no suction retention whatsoever due to a very dry mouth induced by necessary medication I need to take. I have been advised that after a lower bone graft I could be fitted with two conventional implants to give retention. My previous mini implants were unsatisfactory and needed to be removed. Does the advice I have been given sound right to you and does your clinic carry out such work?

Many thanks.

Hi.

Yes it ‘could’ be the correct advice but obviously I’d need to confirm that by seeing X-rays and ideally a CT scan of your jaw bone. Sometimes it’s better to have 4 implants to retain a lower denture as there is much more stability and retention but this would be subject to suitability and the amount of bone available or that we could graft.

My advice is to see a Prosthodontic Specialist who has lots of experience in bone grafting and implants for the best results. We have one in my Harley Street practice who is excellent.

As you have given me your number I’ll have one of my team contact you to discuss further. Kind regards, Mark.
