I have a big gap in my front teeth, what is the best way to close it?

Q.
Hello, i’m 17 and have quite a big gap in my front two teeth and the teeth either side also have a slight gaps. 3years ago my dentist told me that the gaps would close naturally quite soon, but nothings happpened. I really hate smiling in photos as I hate showing my teeth. the bottom row are fine. to give a rough idea, my teeth are similar to how the 1st womans were on your portfolio and i’d like to have my teeth like hers are now. I’ve heard veneers would be good, but don’t last long and can crack easily. what would you think the cheapest ways are to fix the gap? can i permenatley get rid of the gap or will it always be there? thankyou
A.
Dear Enquirer,
It’s good that you are starting your search for a cosmetic dentist to help improve your smile. There are 2 ways of improving your gap, the first is by having a course of orthodontic treatment and the second is by placing porcelain veneers. Veneers last up to 15 years and once placed should not cause any problems until they come up for replacement.
I wouldn’t look for the cheapest solution, but a good long term solution with a cosmetic dentist who can help you with your dental goals. There is no need to put up with a smile you are embarassed about, so do seek out some help and book an appointment with a dentist so they can assess you. Porcealin veneers range from £350 to £1000 per tooth.
