How Much Does It Cost For The NHS To Remove A Painful Impacted Wisdom Tooth? I’m In Agony.

Hi there, I am a Scottish and I’m living in London. After years of wisdom tooth pain I had enough, I had my teeth checked when I was in Scotland at Christmas time and said to the dentist I can’t cope (I broke down in tears at work – not ideal) and I really needed them gone. She said that she can refer me to a doctor as one of them is impacted and the other isn’t. This would have been fine apart from the doctor is in Scotland not England. So now I am left with very painful teeth, both coming through at once, it’s causing ear ache and gland problems. My face is always agony, I cannot sleep due to clenching my jaw, do not talk to me about eating! Haha, sometimes I get up and it is relatively pain free after a couple of cups of something warm. Anyway, what can I do? How does the NHS work in England? Please can someone give me advice as I have been quoted prices from £150 (non-impacted) to £700 for the impacted ones to be removed. Hi. I am unable to advise you about the NHS system as I work only in private cosmetic dentistry. You should try to find an NHS dentist in London and ask for a referral for your wisdom teeth to be extracted. If you have to see a specialist then you are likely to be referred through the dental hospital system and this can take a long time due to the waiting lists.

You of course have the alternative option of going privately and fees will vary depending on the complexity of your particular case and the quality of the specialist you see. If you have private health insurance it may cover referral to a specialist oral surgeon for the extractions and any anaesthetic charges. By going privately you’ll skip all the waiting and it can be done almost immediately.
