how much are dental implants on NHS

Q. Hi, I would really like your advice. My back teeth are very decayed and I think will have to be removed (probably the last 2 on each side, lower and maybe upper). I am very scared about going to the dentist, in case he tells me I need dentures but I know I need to see him soon. I am only 24. What are my other options, implants? How much do they cost on NHS.

A. Implants are not available on the NHS in general practice but yes they are an option instead of a denture.  However the teeth may not be decayed into the roots and as such may well be saveable.

hi, i have 4 molars missing (two on each side, up and down). Now i have only 4 molars left (19 years old), from this 4 molars left 2 are healthy, but 2 on the left side (top and bottom molars) are very decayed and will need extraction. If i do go ahead with the extraction i am going to be left with no molars on the left side and great imbalance of the face, will i be eligible for dental implants on nhs? if i do extract the 2 decayed molars, i am going to have in total 6 molars missing. i cannot afford to go private and my family have very low income and i am 19 and in full time education, is there any help for me?
also if the 2 molars are extracted how can i prevent the bone loss without having immediate dental implant?how can the bone be presserved for the dental implnt in 1 or 2 years time for example.
i mentioned this because if i cannot be accepted on nhs, in a few months i am going to wear braces for aprox 1 year and then have bi-maxillary surgery to correct the over bite and cross bite, so during this time i do not want the bone atrophy to take place and my jaw to shrink, as it has already shrinked and caused the crossbite as the 4 molars have been taken at different ages( 1 molar extracted when i was 12, and 3 when i was 17) please answer to my question.
thank you so much.

I have a bilateral cross bite (Grade5)with only one or two bite points in my whole mouth. I have had various sources of advice ranging from ‘do nothing’ or ‘arch expansion, followed by braces and restorative dentistry’. My currently favoured option is the Damon System, but I have been told by my reg dentist to ask any orthodontist the questions ” will the treatment tip my teeth?” I also have sinus problems that may be affected by my teeth being sited in my sinuses and I have gum loss and some tooth resorption. Otherwise my teeth are in good condition. I am aged 62 and have arthritis and neuropathic pain What do you read into this please

William Says :

My advice would be to have a consultation with a specialist orthodontist first, ideally one experienced inthe use of the Damon appliance, so that you can get accurate advice and also discuss some of your medical issues as well.

To whom it may concern, Due to being in the “wrong place at the right time” or acting a “hero” roughly 7 years ago, i ended up having all apart from 2 of my upper front teeth smashed out leaving only the roots exposed, and damage to the lower teeth. My jaw was also broken but has healed over time. My oral hygiene is very very bad even though i try “painfully” to brush whatever teeth i have left & use very strong mouthwashes every single day. Infection set in many years ago & antibiotics just don’t work on me anymore and i’m in constant pain that is slowly traveling to the sides of my head affecting the way i eat, talk, think & as an educated guy fully microsoft certified that can’t get a job, i know the reasons why and i don’t blame any employer for not hiring me with a smile that looks as bad as mine. All this misfortune happened whilst i was on holiday, and i ended up stayingfor 4 years as the healthcare was private and all the money i had went onfixing my jaw (16.000). The rest of the time i was doing odd-jobs just so icould return home (UK), and now i’m here, all employers look at me like ihave a disease & not what i can do for them work-wise. I really do need help and urgently… literally saving a girls life has ruined mine beyond belief. (I don’t regret this and i would do it again so don’t get me wrong).I’m 29 now so most of my “good” years have been taken from me. I reallydon’t want dentures but really would like to know more about dental implants. I’ve been reading up and from what i see, the NHS will only pay for something like this if there is a medical need for it… I believe 100% i fall into this category. Please could you let me know if you can help me andwhat i should do or if there is someone you could direct me to. Kindest regards

Just an enquiry regarding veneers and your starting price etcI am in the Army and find it difficult to get to a dentist. I am only homein Edinburgh certain times of the year. Would I be able to get treatment asa NHS patient. Can’t get dentistry work done in Army as they do people being deployed first which means I will have to wait a year for any treatmentneeding done. I would be most greatful if you could get back to me as soonas possible so that I can arrange an appointment while I am over here. Many thanks

Hi, I am a patient myself that needs implants; I live in the South West; they are called Dental Care Plus and have clinics in Devon, Bristol, the South East/ Kent; there is also a clinic called Evodental or Evodent in Liverpool; there are loads around, just Google Cheaper Dental Implants; I have a found place in my area that does them for around 950.00 (including post and crown/tooth) each, which is 1,500 cheaper than what I was quoted from high st. dentists; you have to go to a clinic that does it as it’s main treatment, they keep the price down cos they buy the materials in bulk; I know this is not available on the nhs so am saving up, good luck 🙂

I need a dental implant because my root has disintigrated! I had to have a tooth removed from my gum when I was younger and this was stored in my cheek until my milk tooth was ready to come out and the tooth was implanted in to that space! Can I not have this done on the nhs or how much will this cost? Its starting to get more wobbly and I’m getting very worried, I’m also pregnant so does this affect what I need to have done?

For as long as I can remember I have had numerous problems with my teeth. About 6 years ago I had to have 6 of my front teeth repaired and replaced with veneers as they started to decay! Then about 4 years ago I started having more problems with my back teeth! They were breaking and causing constant pain! It was decided that it was best to have them removed, so I had 16 teeth removed (all at once I might add). I was then given dentures but these don’t work. I couldn’t wear the top ones as the plate went too far back and I was constantly gagging and the bottom ones hurt too much and didn’t work as well without the top ones! This was not the end if my problems, i then had a tooth infection on the left side which caused the left side of my face to swell up so much I had to be hospitalised! The swelling was so severe they said I would have to have an apicoectomy which stopped the infection but left me with tenderness along my cheek bone towards my nose. But I can cope with that! Now I have a tooth which has got another infection which is causing abscess on my gum line! I’ve now been told I have to have that tooth out as there is no way it can be saved! My breath is not great and I am so depressed about the constant pain I’m in and constantly crying. The dentist doesn’t seem to think there is an underlying problem other than the crowns being there for so long! Is there anything else that can be done like implants? I’m already taking antidepressants because of the problems I’m currently having I feel like no one is there to help me and listen to me there. I know there is something wrong. Any help and advice.
