Do you have any advice about getting my teeth whitened?

Q. Hello doctor, I am a teenager of 15 years of age and I have neglected my teeth for a few years since maybe the age of 7 or 8 where I only brushed once a day or once every other day and I am ashamed to say that I have only just started to think about doing something about it. This has caused stains on my teeth from a young age which have never gone which leads me to fear that these stains are maybe quite deep. I have started an oral hygiene regime in which I’m using Arm and Hammer Advanced Whitening toothpaste and Plax Mouthwash. My question is therefore, do you have any advice or information concerning what I can do to get my teeth healthier and whiter (especially!) and any specific products that would help my teeth stains disappear? Thanks.,
A. Firstly, to have healthy teeth you need healthy gums. If it has been a while since you’ve seen a dentist then I suggest you go and see one for a full examintion and a clean with a hygienist – who may be able to remove many of the stains on your teeth.. Whitening is an option you may consider after you have had a thorough clean. Justin Glasiter

Everyone desires to have a great smile. For a klielr smile, one should have sparkling, bright, and shiny teeth. Today, a lot of people are spending more money just to have their teeth whiter.Bleaching This is most common form of teeth whitening procedure. Your dentist will advice you if this is the best teeth whitening treatment suitable for you. Bleaching is done by placing a gel or rubber to shield the soft tissue of your gums. Then, the whitening product will be applied on your teeth by using a special tray which shapes into your mouth like a gum shell.Laser Whitening This is also called the power whitening . Though expensive, a lot of people especially artists consider it as the best teeth whitening method. During this process, a rubber dam is placed over your teeth to shield the gums, and the whitening product is then painted on your teeth. A laser will be used to stimulate the chemical. The light will help boost the chemical reaction of the bleaching product, thus the color change can be attained more rapidly.

Hello. I am 16 and my teeth are very discoloured due to many medications I had to take during my childhood for an illness. I also have flurosis due to the area I live in and I have no confidence at all because I am that self concious of my teeth. It was affecting my social life too and I hate i! When I speak you can clearly see that my teeth are not white and no matter how much I brush them the colour improves unnoticeable amounts and I have been brushing them for years and years now. They are affecting my entire life and I really need some help please

Hi. I had train track braces as a child (I am now 32 years old) and I was told they would have no effect on my teeth. I’m a smoker and noticed squares on my teeth now, it’s very embarrassing and I’ve tried everything! I really don’t know what to do, they also feel overly sensitive I just don’t understand why I’m only being affected by this now. Does this mean my enamel is ruined? Can you advise me please?

Hi It sounds as though the damage was done when the braces were in place and then the teeth may have darkened at varying rates over time (a bit like a picture on the wall that is taken down after several years). This can be treated – usually with whitening and stopping smoking! Stubborn areas can then be treated with microbrasion, bonding or in sever cases veneers. Good luck.
