I have received a lot of dental treatment recently that has left me in a lot of pain, do I now need to seek further treatment?

Q.

Hi,
Back in April, I managed to break a back molar (second back top left) All wisdom teeth removed several years ago.
The tooth is directly above a gold crown.
The tooth required root canal treatment and a crown.
I had a silver crown fitted originally, which caused a severe metallic reaction, and was changed for a porcelain crown.
The first split on fitting, and the second has now been in place since August.
The tooth feels very large and bulges out on both sides.
It is very uncomfortable rather than painful, but I am constantly aware of it’s presence, rubbing my gum and tongue.
There is a throbbing sensation, and as I say, and constant awareness of it.
Whilst receiving treatment, the dentist said I had errosion to my two front teeth and applied a substance over them, which is rough, and also has a groove on the top of the left front tooth, and they kind of click. when I talk and eat.
I have not needed any dental treatment for twenty years, and have had this tratment leaving me feeling as though my mouth is not my own.
Given the trouble and time spent on sorting this (I had to take lots of time off work) I would welcome your opinion if its something I have to put up with, or seek further trattment.
Thank You

I have recently lost my job and can’t afford to pay for my dental care, what are my options?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hey Dr Andrew.

Ever since i can remember, I’ve had bad teeth. I started smoking quite young and have been for around ten years now. I’m 22 and my teeth are starting to fall apart. I’m so ashamed of my teeth that i haven’t been to a dentist. They are cracking and two of my upper front teeth are starting to blacken in one corner. I wondered what options are open to me? I recently lost my job so i am currently on benefits while i can find work, my teeth hurt when i brush them, when i eat and when breathing during cold weather, i also suffer from bad breath (which is extremely embarrassing). Can you advise me on funds? Please help!

Thanks for your time!

I suffered from Bulimia in the past and this has affected my teeth, what can I do to fix them?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Good Morning,

I wanted some advice on veneers and prices. My two front teeth at the top looked cracked and are slightly discoloured. This has been a result of Bulimia in the past. What can I do to rectify my teeth, as am worried about there appearance and are they weak and will they fall apart without veneers. It is only those two teeth I am mainly worried about as they look the worst. I have my bulimia under control but need to sort out the appearance of my teeth. I am also on a very strict budget so need to look at all my options, but if I dont get my teeth done they physical appearance of them looks even more depreessing to me.

Many thanks

Some of my front teeth have rotted and broken off, I don’t know what to do, please help!

Q.

Hi there Dr Moore, unfortunately I haven’t looked after my teeth and all my top teeth have rotted very badly ,broken off .
Especially the front row .
This has left me so depressed and has affected my social and working life badly .
I am ashamed to open my mouth, and too embarrassed to see a dentist .The longer i am leaving this the worse it is getting .
I guess I need them all to be extracted and to get a denture, this is how bad they are! What sort of costs would I be looking at ,and do any dentists specialise in working with people with my problem? I am very dental phobic and need a gentle dentist who can be patient with me. Thank you in advance.

How do I go about getting my chipped tooth fixed?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hi there

i have nice teeth all round but i have a problem with my two front teeth, as i teen i may have chipped them and i have noticed that the “chip” is getting bigger. The chip is in the middle of my two front teeth.
i was wondering if it is possible to file them to make them appear rounded? My two front teeth are large anyway so i do feel that this is possible? Would they both have to be altered? I don’t know how to go about getting this done. please get back to me asap….
Thanks

How much would it cost to have my chipped front teeth treated?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Hussein Shaffie. Not sure if you could help me answer my small question, I’ve chipped my two front teeth quite some time ago now about five years and I was wondering if they can be fixed? They haven’t botherd me until now as I haven’t been to the dentist for a while and I’m getting quite ashamed of them. Have I left it too late for them to be sorted? Or will I have to have them extracted? And please could you tell me a ball park figure I was thinking about £1000 and could you do this for me thanks doctor.

What did my dentist mean when he said my jaw could have jarred?

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012
Q.

June 30th, I tripped whilst running and fell, my teeth bore the initial impact- upper right incisor cracked and upper left incisor slightly chipped. I saw a dentist two day afterwards who filled the chipped tooth with composite and an X-ray revealed that my right incisor was cracked not only n the middle as if you we’re looking at me but also under the gum at the back of the tooth. The tooth was treated with roo canal, a reconstructive post and a temp crown. Since then I have noticed that my upper teeth seem to have retracted, loss of lip support and therefore volume and mouth appears less full. I have been told my jaw could have jarred, what does this mean? End of Aug an abscess appeared on the gum above my upper right incisor. I have since had it removed- and a bone graft so it is rely for an implant, a temp bridge currently sits in place of the missing tooth. My real concern now if with the change in my lips/ face. Loss of lip support! Philtrum appears falter and longer, bite feels different and physically I can feel a significant difference.
Can you advise if their are any solutions for me? I do not want a lip filler as that will not alter the actual structure of my mouth or the way it feels functionally? This is really distressing me and I am really looking to explore solutions.
Yours in hope.

Can I receive all the treatment I need before heading off with the army in January?

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012
Q.

hi there doctor Andrew, here is my problem:  I have not been to the dentist in around 10 years as I am too scared but have finally decided to go as two of my bottom molars have broken all the way down to the gum line. Also one on the other side of my mouth has suffered the same problem. One of the top molars is the same, my question is will the dentist make fun of me? As i feel very embarrassed about going to the dentist. I want my teeth sorting as I am going to Afghanistan in January with the army so I need to have them out so nothing puts me off when I’m there. I am in a lot of pain with my mouth currently and would love to get the treatment I need as soon as possible! Can I get the treatment I need even though i’m on the nhs?

I went to have my chipped tooth repaired but my dentist said it doesn’t need treating, how can I insist that he does something about it?

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012
Q.

Hi i have just chipped my front right tooth on a glass. its only very small but its left a jaggery line which looks awful. I am really bothered about it. I also went to the my dentist about a chip in my bottom tooth a few months ago which is not as noticeable as its on the bottom and he charged me £17 just to say no it did not require treatment. I refuse to pay that again just to hear those words. I really need this fixing. How can I insist he does something about this? Surely its not too much hard work. All he seems to say to me whenever I go is that my teeth are better than most and I should be grateful. This isn’t the right attitude surely? I thought preventative dentistry was supposed to be the best way, my teeth are only going to get worse if they are left like this!
