Can you tell me why I still have a baby tooth even though I’m 16?

Q.
I have a problem, I’m sixteen years old and I still have my baby tooth- Can you tell why it hasn’t come out yet? and What treatment could I use to help me get the perfect smile?
A.
Dear Enquirer,
It is quite common for the upper lateral incisor baby tooth and the second premolar baby teeth to be retained in the mouth beyond thir normal lifespan. You will need to be assessed by a dentist who will check if the permanent teeth are present underneath the baby teth. If they are then you have options to have the baby teeth extracted and the permanent ones brought into place with braces.
If permanent teeth are not present then you may be able to have veneers placed on the baby teeth if space allows.
Lastly, you may need to have those teeth removed and the spaces restored with implants.

I’m 21 years old and had missing adult teeth so my baby teeth had bonded tomy jaw and submerged. I recently had the baby teeth removed and would liketo know my options regarding the gaps as I don’t wish to have a brace. Anyinformation you could provide me would be great. Thanks

My daughter is 5 yrs old she is in reception stage at school . She has a good healthy full set of teeth. She has had her teeth checked by her dentist a year ago and another one by her school dentist a few months ago and she was given the all clear. But I just noticed today that she has 2 teeth growing behind her front bottom row teeth. What needs to happen? Do I take her back to our dentist? Will she need to have them removed? will she need to have braces?

It is normal for this to happen…it is the first permanent incisors that are growing behind the ‘baby teeth’. At around te age of 6 years, the baby teeth will loosen by themselves and fall out. Regards,
