A permanent solution has been discovered for thousands of NHS dental patients in North Yorkshire.

The areas of Hambleton and Richmondshire have struggled for more than three years due to a lack of NHS dental services.

But now Alpha Dental Group has been appointed to clean up the mess.

The company won a five-year contract for the privilege and will now be providing NHS dental care in Catterick Garrison, Great Ayton, Hawes, Leyburn and Northallerton.

The firm also plans to open another clinic in Bedale when it has found suitable premises.

Alpha Dental had already been providing temporary NHS services to patients in these towns but this new contract makes the care permanent.

The Advertiser reported Dr Ian Gordon, partner of the dental group and dentist, saying he was delighted at winning the contract and that local patients, who do not have an NHS dentist, should register with the group.

He added that Alpha Dental is committed to providing NHS dental care to the populations of these towns and hopes to build on its established services.

Since 2006 many people in the region had to go without NHS dental care as number of practices turned private.
