Would you get a tooth tattoo?

Tattoos have become increasingly popular over the course of the last few years, but it seems that many people aren’t stopping at having their bodies inked. A new trend, tooth tattoos, is taking the US by storm.

A dental stain tattoo, also known as a ‘tattooth,’ has become an increasingly popular trend in the United States, with dentists charging around $75- $200 for the pleasure of inking their client’s teeth. Unlike body tattoos, tooth tattoos are painless, as they are inked on crowns. Any tooth that needs crowning can be tattooed, and there’s no risk to your dental health.

Although the trend is really taking off now, there is evidence to suggest that tooth tattoos have been around for some time. It is thought that the first dental tattoo was done around two decades ago in Connecticut when a patient wanted an image of a Corvette painted on their new crown. Today, people are choosing all kinds of designs and prints, from subtle hearts and stars to words, slogans and pictures of famous faces.

Tim Miller decided to have a tooth tattoo because he said everyone has normal tattoos nowadays, and he wanted something different. He chose to have a shamrock in recognition of his wife’s Irish heritage.

Dental tattoos may be becoming more popular, but dentists have warned that they are only available to patients who need a tooth crowning. The natural tooth enamel shouldn’t be inked.
