Construction work is underway to replace unsuitable, out of date health facilities in Easter Ross.

Builders have started work on a new health and dental centre, which will provide a host of health services and state of the art facilities for local people. The Tain Health Centre, which will be located near Craighill Primary School in Craighill Terrace, will house two GP practices, local screening services, a dental suite with 4 treatment rooms, numerous consulting rooms, interview rooms, a podiatry treatment room and a physiotherapy treatment suite.

The project should be completed by spring 2014 and local people are looking forward to the opening of the new health centre, which will act as a ‘one-stop shop’ for all their health needs. Miller Construction is the main contractor and the building will be managed by hub North Scotland and then NHS Highland.

Garry Coutts, chair of NHS Highland, officiated at the turf cutting to mark the beginning of construction work and said that the project was an exciting and valuable development for the area. Mr Coutts said that at the moment the facilities are preventing health professionals from delivering the highest possible standards of care because they are out of date; the new health centre will provide spacious, modern and well-equipped treatment and consulting rooms and patients will be able to access a range of services under one roof.

The project is being funded by the Scottish Government, as part of a local hub initiative, which enables several small projects to be joined together to provide better value for money.
