Work is underway on a new multimillion pound health centre in Liverpool.

The six million pound development, which is being constructed in Anfield, will offer GP services, dental services and minor surgery; opening hours will also be extended to allow more patients to benefit from the facility.

Plans for the health centre were approved by Liverpool Primary Care Trust last week and work has already started on the development; the new centre will be built on land formerly used by All Saints Roman Catholic Primary School, on Townsend Lane.

The new multimillion pound development is part of the Primary Care Trust’s plans to improve community health services; recently, a number of community health centres have opened in the Liverpool area and construction is underway on other local facilities.

Gideon Ben-Tovim, chairman of the Primary Care Trust, said that the new centre is part of a huge investment in health services across Liverpool.

Townsend Lane Medical Centre and Anfield Group Practice will move into the new neighbourhood health centre. The development is being managed by Liverpool and Sefton Health Partnerships, which is part of the LFT group. LFT is a partnership between the private and public sectors.
