Dental teams across Worcestershire are supporting the Oral Health Foundation’s National Smile Month campaign.

The campaign, which runs from May 16th to June 16th, raises awareness of key oral health issues, encouraging people up and down the country to take good care of their smiles.

In Worcestershire, practices and community dental teams have been spreading oral health education messages and taking part in activities to promote good dental health practices and urge patients to adopt preventative measures.

The community dental team at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is covering a wide range of subjects, including nutrition, mouth, mind and body, the cost of dental treatment, the life of the smile and oral health around the UK. The team comprises a variety of dental professionals, including members of the Smile Squad, who work with children and teenagers across the two counties.

Georgia Owen, oral health promotion officer for the local NHS trust, said that National Smile Month provides a valuable opportunity for everyone to come together and “share in promoting good oral health, which affects your overall health.”

Local practices are participating in different activities and events this month. At Moor Street Clinic in Worcester, the dental team is supporting the county’s Smile Squad campaign by sharing smiley selfies and encouraging patients and residents to do the same. The key messages for the smiley campaign are to champion twice-daily brushing, healthy eating and regular dental visits. Patients in the county can share their smiley selfies on social media tagging @HWHCTSmileSquad.
