A 22-year-old Manchester woman’s looks were ravaged after she became addicted to a legal drug.

Mikaila Tyhurst became hooked on Gamma butyrolactone, aka GBL, four years ago and now thanks to her addiction she has no front teeth.

The mother of one almost died three months ago due to an overdose and her years of drug use have left her with skin diseases.

Only 10 per cent of Mikaila’s liver still works.

Tracey, Mikaila’s mother, was quoted in The Citizen as saying that her daughter had dreamed of becoming an air stewardess when she grew up but now she is in rehab.

She said that the past few years have been a nightmare and that her once pretty daughter had lost her looks because of her addiction to GBL.

According to her mother, Mikaila used to fall unconscious frequently, had broken her feet, suffered cuts to the face due to falling over, dropped down to six and a half stone in weight, and lost her teeth because of drug use.

Reports suggest that GBL can be lethal even in minute doses if mixed with alcohol.

A £200,000 campaign about Mikaila’s story has been launched by the government to highlight the dangers of GBL. It is aimed mainly at students.

It is expected that GBL will be classified as a class C drug next year. This would mean dealers of the drug could spend up to 14 years in jail if caught.
