Wiltshire dentist cleared of indecent behaviour

A dentist from Wiltshire has been cleared of allegations of indecent behaviour.

Hossein Mohseni, from Pewsey, was cleared of the charges by the General Dental Council; the panel claimed there was no evidence to support charges of bullying, verbal abuse and indecent behaviour. Mr Mohseni had been accused of verbally abusing colleagues and fondling his genitals in public by fellow staff at the Pewsey Dental Practice. Former colleagues, including Donna Cauwood, told the panel that Mohseni frequently flew into a fit of rage, hurled abuse at staff and then swamped them with hugs and kisses.

Mr Mohseni was also accused of asking colleagues to pose as trained dentists; he also asked untrained receptionists to assist with procedures and the GDC panel found him guilty of these charges.

The dentist, who was born in Iran, is now awaiting the decision of the General Dental Council panel with regard to his future career.

Chair of the GDC panel, Helen Potts, told the dentist that the panel did not have sufficient evidence to suggest that he behaved indecently and verbally abused staff at the Pewsey surgery; however, Ms Potts did say that it was evident that Mr Mohseni had a problem controlling his temper. The panel also condemned Mohseni’s behaviour, as he asked a dental nurse to pose as a trained dentist and encouraged receptionists to assist during dental procedures. The panel also found that Mohseni had failed to listen to a dental nurse’s concerns about procedures to prevent cross-infection at the practice; however, there was not enough evidence to suggest that Mohseni had failed to follow guidelines for infection control.

Mohseni is now waiting to hear the outcome of the GDC hearing, after the panel ran out of time. The panel will now meet again to decide an appropriate course of action.

Parcival Says :

Mr. Mohseni was my dentist and did seem stressed/agitated at the time, unlike other dentists I have used. Perhaps this was because the other dentist he employed left. I too was concerned that he appeared not to be as careful as I would have liked or expected about cross-contamination. He also seemed remarkably inefficient and unconcerned about doing a good job/providing good service.
