Wigan Dentists Praised

Wigan’s dentists are among the best in the North West according to a recently released report.

Recent figures by the Department of Health show that patients in the area are able to receive treatments faster than patients in other areas. The GP Patient Survey revealed that 97 percent of people in Wigan were able to make an appointment between the months of January and March 2012, in comparison to the average of 95 % in the North West and the national average of 96 %.

Ms Jackie Forshaw, NHS Associate Director, said that the figures are very promising and show an improvement in access to NHS dental services within the last two years and figures for the last 3 months have also been very positive.

Ms Forshaw added that the positive results are symbolic of the hard work of NHS dentists in the area and the commitment of the NHS Wigan, Leigh and Ashton Care Trust to improving services.

The survey was sent to 1.4 million and around 510,000 people replied. Respondents were asked whether they had attempted to make an appointment within the last 3 months, the last 6 months and the last 12 months.

There are NHS practices in and around Wigan accepting new patients and the Wigan Borough Commissioning Group advises anyone who doesn’t have a dentist to contact them to find out about surgeries with NHS places in the area. An emergency out-of-hours service is also available.
