A dental team from Wibsey has thanked local people for their generosity after thieves stole presents from the practice in the run-up to Christmas.

Thieves broke into Taylored Dental Care on Wibsey Bank just a few days before the team was due to deliver gifts and donations to a local foodbank. The burglars took off with around a hundred presents, leaving staff devastated. The team had been collecting gifts for months and was left with just 70 gifts days before they were supposed to be dropping them off at foodbanks in the area.

News of the break-in spread fast in the community and people flocked to the practice, offering cash donations, presents and help with wrapping. People were so generous that the practice was able to donate almost twice the number of gifts they had collected before the robbery.

Lead nurse, Becky Holmes, said that the response had been overwhelming. Kind residents donated a total of more than £800 to buy replacement presents and people were also offering to help with wrapping gifts so that the team could work fast enough to get the presents to the foodbanks before the festive break. Becky said that the incident “broke” the team but the spirit of the community picked everyone back up and meant that people who are struggling got the presents they deserved. The donations “restored our faith in humanity,” Becky added.

The presents were distributed to food banks in Keighley, Bradford, Eccleshill and Wibsey. There were funds left over after buying the Christmas gifts and the team will be using the money to buy essential supplies to donate in 2023, including baby milk, nappies and toiletries.

Police enquiries are ongoing.
