White van dentist hits the road with CAT scanner
A dentist from Oxford is plying his trade out of the back of a Volkswagen van.
Dr Julian Perry has installed a state-of-the-art CAT scanner, which is used for three-dimensional imaging, in the van and is now offering its services to dentists across the UK.
The van enables the latest equipment to be used at smaller dental practices or at a patients’ home or workplace.
Dr Perry claims that the mobile scanner, which is Ewoo’s latest Pan Duo 3D model, is faster, safer and more efficient then any other equipment currently available in Britain.
He said that clinicians can book appointments for their patients on the internet and then a radiography technician will arrive at a convenient time, conduct the scan and issue results there and then. He added that this short process is cheaper than hospital treatment, which can take weeks.
The Pan Duo is safe than older machines as it patients are exposed to far less x-radiation.
The scanner van is able to visit anywhere in the UK within a week of booking at any time of the day, on any day of the week.
Dr Perry was named the Most Innovative Dentist 2009 for the scanner scheme at the Private Dentistry Awards.
