Whaley Bridge dental practice forced to cancel appointments amid flooding fears

A dental practice based in Whaley Bridge has been forced to cancel appointments due to flooding fears. The medical practice, which is located alongside dental services at Goyt Valley Medical and Dental Practice, has relocated to Chapel-en-le-Frith as teams strive to save the town from flooding.

Patients planning to attend appointments at Goyt Valley Medical Practice have been advised to visit the sister surgery in Chapel-en-le-Frith, as rescue teams battle to stabilise the dam at Toddbrook Reservoir. As yet, no arrangements have been confirmed for the dental service, and patients are advised to look out for updates on the practice’s Facebook page. All patients have also been asked to only contact the practices in the event of requiring urgent care while temporary measures are in place.

The area has been subjected to torrential downpours in recent weeks, and residents of Whaley Bridge were encouraged to evacuate last week. The wall of the dam collapsed under the pressure of prolonged periods of rain, and teams of fire fighters are working in tandem with RAF Chinook pilots to drain water and try and secure the structure. Further rain is forecast in Derbyshire in the coming days, and teams face a race against time to try and save hundreds of households.
