Welsh access to NHS dentistry improves

The Patients Association found that access to dentistry in the country had substantially increased thanks to innovative improvements made by NHS management.

In the past many people in Wales struggled to access NHS dentistry but changes made to the system have reduced the size of waiting lists considerably.

Edwina Hart, health minister for Wales, claimed that increased funding had improved access to dentistry but acknowledged that work still had to be done to increase access in certain regions.

She also revealed the NHS dentistry charges would be frozen for the forth year in a row so people can still afford to access treatment if needed.

Stuart Geddes, British Dental Association’s director for Wales, celebrated the charge freeze but said that some old local health boards didn’t earn as much patient revenue as they expected which meant that they couldn’t afford to offer some services.

He added that it was good that access didn’t seem to be a problem any more.
