A Watford couple is full of smiles after donating the tools in their dental practice to a charity, which helps people in Africa.

Dr Colin Cook and his wife Brenda have run SD Radiology in St Albans for a decade and they decided to donate equipment, including a specialist X-ray machine, to a charity in Cameroon after placing an advert on Global Hand, a global humanitarian site.

Colin and Brenda, a dental nurse, are planning to retire and wanted the X-ray unit, which produces incredibly detailed images and is not usually found in dental surgeries, to go to a good home; they placed the advert on Global Hand and were delighted when the Research Institute for Development, Communication and School Partnership, got in touch to register their interest.

A representative from the charity visited Colin and Brenda and they also offered other items from the practice, including tables, chairs and computers; the equipment is now on its way to Africa and Colin and Brenda are very pleased that their donations will make a difference to so many people. Dr Cook said that it is great news that the scanner will put to use in an area of deprivation and added that the couple was “thrilled” with the outcome of their advert.

Ben Solanky,UK director of Global Hand, said that this match showed how easy it is for people in the UK to help those in need in other parts of the world.
