Volunteer dentists give patients something to smile about

Sample News Big

A group of dentists has teamed up to host a free clinic, which will target patients who cannot afford dental treatment and do not have dental insurance.

Dentists from California, New Mexico, Colorado and Kansas dentists have joined forced to host the clinic at Expo New Mexico next week. The New Mexico Mission of Mercy clinic will provide free treatment for patients on the 15th and 16th October; the event is being hosted in conjunction with the New Mexico Dental Foundation.

The two day clinic is being held to help people who cannot afford to pay for dental treatment; New Mexico currently has a shortage of dentists, meaning that many people have to wait long periods of time to see a dentist. The provision of Medicaid services is also poor, meaning hundreds of people cannot afford to go to the dentist. Dentists working at the event hope that the popularity of the clinic will show health officials in the area how serious the situation is and encourage them to take steps to improve access to dental services in the future.

There is no appointment system and patients will be allocated appointments on a first come, first served basis.
