It has been revealed that two London-based dentists earn more than £200,000 annual salary.

The Hounslow dentists were found to be earning way more than the national average Dentist’s salary of £89,000, sparking an outrcry from many groups.

A survey has revealed that around one in four dentists are earning more than £100,000, upsetting campaigners of NHS dentists’ pay.

NHS Dentists’ wages have grown since new dental contracts were issued in 2006.

They are currently paid for the treatments they perform rather than the number of people they serve.

There has been a fall in the number of complex procedures that are carried out and reports in March suggested that only 58.3 per cent of the population had seen an NHS dentist in the last two years.

John Lister, of London Health Emergency, said that the amount of cash being spent was becoming ridiculous and added that the dental profession had been a ‘disaster’ for consecutive governments.

Mr Lister pointed out that dentistry is the single area of the NHS where people shell out big ‘lumps’ of cash and questioned why the profession was being allowed to get away with that.

He added that the situation was ridiculous as many dentists are being paid high sums when the NHS is failing to deliver high quality, easily accessible, care.

A spokesperson from the British Dental Association said that dentists are highly trained caring professionals that had had to work hard to overcome problems caused by the 2006 contract.

The spokesperson added that often dentists had to bear all the business risk of their practices, while managing offices, ordering equipment and hiring staff.

Matthew Elliott, TaxPayers’ Alliance chief exec, said that the public shouldn’t blame dentists for trying to do well if the system allows them to do so.

He added that it was the Department of Health who was to blame for making a mess of the contract.
