A dental team that is revolutionising NHS dental care in Northumberland has announced that it is continuing to grow.

The Tweedmouth Clinic, based on Shieldfield Terrace, North Northumberland, only opened in October 2009 and is already treating more than 600 patients and plans to expand its capacity later in the year.

Run by Shabin Chohan and Paul Thapar, the clinic and its six sister practices are now trying to increase the amount of NHS dental care available in the North East.

Dr Thapar and Dr Chohan, who currently employ 30 dentists, are being backed by Northumberland Care Trust because they continue to be successful and cut NHS dental waiting lists.

Dr Thapar said that the clinic had been inundated with calls from patients that want their services.

He added that support from Northumberland Care Trust had helped them improve access to NHS dentistry in the area.

Jeff Goldthorpe, NHS North of Tyne’s head of dentistry, said he was pleased with the impact the duo had had and claimed that their success showed the NHS‘s commitment to improving local access to dental care.
