Two new dental practices are set to open in Portsmouth.

Dentistry for You is opening two clinics located in Copnor Road and Binnacle Way. The practices are due to open their doors in April.

The news has spread fast and more than three thousand people have already tried to call and register with the new practices. Dentist, Dr Nadeem Harunani, revealed that the team had been inundated with calls, such is the demand for NHS treatment in the city.

Portsmouth was labelled a ‘dental desert’ recently with very few NHS places available. The city has struggled since the unexpected closure of several practices run by the same provider, Colosseum Dental, in 2019. Around 10,000 people were affected by the closures and since the pandemic, the situation has got worse due to treatment backlogs and some practices reducing NHS capacity.

The new practice on the retail park near Binnacle Way has proven particularly popular. Group manager, Liz Fernandez, said that she was surrounded by crowds of people when handing out leaflets in the area advertising the clinic and Dr Harunani suggested that almost 3,000 people had called to register. Around 500 people have called about the practice in Copnor Road.

The practice will be allocating appointments from March ready for the opening in April. For now, residents will be able to register their interest in the practices.
