Two Hundred Thousand Pounds of Funding Up for Grabs

Sample News Big

Funding for dental research is always highly sought after, but the £200 000 that is being offered to the successful applicant (or applicants) by the Shirley Glasston Hughes Trust Fund is certain to be highly contested for by many would be researchers.

The Shirley Glasstone Hughes Trust Fund is urging any and all competitors to apply for the research projects. The areas that have been chosen for study were selected from 12 choices, the first of which is:

Does dentists’ fear have an adverse effect on clinical decision making?

Obviously this focuses on the fear of the dentist that many people suffer from. Most dentists are now insistent that a dental visit nowadays is safe and largely painless and these changes that have come about to increase the feeling of security within the dental surgery, are likely to be one of the areas studied when this question is addressed.

The second question is:

Which dental liners under amalgam restorations have greater patient benefit?

Amalgam is one of the most common materials used in dental procedures, and as such, the most effective and popular used by many dentists. Therefore, one of the areas that will be studied is finding the best material that can be used in correlation with both amalgam and the enamel of teeth.

The 2 questions were chosen from 12 choices, which were judged by the Primary Care Dentistry Research Forum, which focuses on research on dental practices.

The projects will begin in January 2012 once the successful applicants have been chosen. The research is estimated to last no more than 3 years and will only accept UK based applications. All entries will be judged on originality, relevance, quality, potential enhancement of dental care and the degree of dental involvement in the research.

The deadline is the 19th of September and can be applied to via the following link:  http://www.bda.org/dentists/policy-research/research-overview/shirley-glasstone.aspx

I think it’s fare to say that whatever state our teeth are in for whatever reason we all feel the same deep down. If we could all afford to do something about it without getting into debt to pay for a perfect smile we would. So just want to say good luck to all of us!! X
