Twitter could Reveal Public Oral Health Worries

A study has suggested that Twitter could be used to reveal public health and dental concerns.

The study, which was published in the Journal of Dental Research, revealed that people often tweet about their oral health problems, with many posting short messages about suffering from toothache and other dental conditions.

The results of the study showed that out of a sample of 772 tweets, 83 percent of the tweets were general messages about dental pain, 22 percent focused on getting treatment for pain and 15 percent talked about the impact of dental pain on the individual’s day.

The journal’s editor-in-chief, William Giannobile, said that the Twitter study provided an interesting insight into public dental concerns and that there was scope for larger studies, which would provide population information on a larger scale.
