Tributes pour in for popular retired dentist from North Yorkshire

Tributes have poured in following the death of a popular retired dentist from North Yorkshire.

Laurence Dobson, an army veteran who worked as a dentist for decades, passed away on February 10th at the age of 80. Born in Surrey, Laurence spent his early years in Hertfordshire. He studied dentistry at Guy’s Hospital Dental School in London before joining the Royal Dental Corps in 1966.

Between 1966 and 1969, Laurence, who served as a Captain, was stationed in Catterick and undertook tours in Singapore and Penang, Malaysia.

When he left the army, Laurence ran practices in North Yorkshire, providing care for generations of families in Catterick, Thirsk and Northallerton. He was a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and became a mentor and trainer for junior dentists later in his career. As well as providing dental services, Laurence also had an interest in hypnotherapy.

Laurence had a wide range of interests during his lifetime and he was a very popular member of the community. Since his passing, tributes have poured in from friends, colleagues and former patients, as well as neighbours and family members. He was married to Rosemary and the couple shared six children and twelve grandchildren. The funeral took place at St Osmund’s Church, Gainford on March 3rd. Donations were collected for St Teresa’s Hospice.
