Tributes have poured in for a popular dentist from Lerwick, who tragically died on New Year’s Day.

Dr David Lubbe, 73, had lived and worked in Shetland for nearly 15 years after growing up in Namibia. He became an integral member of the community in Lerwick, gaining an excellent reputation while working at Dental Shetland.

The North Road practice has been closed since Dr Lubbe’s sudden death and will remain shut until a locum dentist can be found to take over on a temporary basis.

Dr Lubbe’s widow, Cheryl, said that she had been inundated with calls, messages and flowers since news of her husband’s death broke. Tributes to the popular, well-respected dentist have been paid by patients, colleagues and friends from across the world and the family has been heartened by peoples’ memories and their kind and thoughtful wishes and messages of condolence. David had a tight-knit network of friends in the area, having spent almost 15 years working in Shetland, and he will be sadly missed by many.

Patients who require urgent assistance are urged to contact Montfield Dental Clinic on 01595 743200 or the Gilbert Bain Hospital on 01595 743000.

Cheryl is currently arranging a memorial service to commemorate and celebrate the life of her husband. Further details about the service will be provided in the coming days.
