Trapped Chilean miners require dental treatment

Sample News Big

Drilling to release trapped miners in Chile has resumed after it was revealed that some of the miner were suffering from dental health problems.

Drilling to set the miners free started on Monday but was temporarily suspended after one of the shaft walls was found to be unstable. Drilling was then resumed on Wednesday after the wall was stabilised and it was revealed that some of the trapped miners were suffering from health issues, including dental problems.

Last week, some of the miners were suffering from digestive complaints, which they were treated for; now, a number of the miners are complaining of tooth decay and some are suffering from minor skin conditions.

The Chilean Interior Ministry’s National Emergency Office said that the miners will be offered the relevant treatment as quickly as possible, as efforts continue to free the trapped miners. Experts working on the project say that drilling could continue until December and fears are growing for both the mental and physiological health of the miners.

Rescuers have made holes in the shaft to enable them to send water, food and medical supplies to the trapped miners, but they face a long, arduous ordeal ahead.
